Pair Of 18th Century Original Painted Armchairs Attributed To George Seddon
A wonderful pair of late 18th century, painted satinwood armchairs, attributed to George Seddon. The armchairs both retain their original, finely detailed decoration and are in dry, untouched Country House condition, some losses to the decoration, as you would expect, the frames are strong and stable, with no movement, just lovely. There is an old paper label on the seat rail which reads William Roddam, perhaps referring to William Spencer Stanhope, who changed his name to Roddam in 1795, when he inherited Roddam Hall, in Wooler, Northumberland.

Seddon had the most prolific cabinet making business in London, in the late 18th century, employing up to around 400 people at 151 Aldersgate. Among his numerous commissions Seddon carried out work for Robert Adam and supplied furniture to Windsor Castle.
