A stunning, large scale, mid 19th century British School, oil on canvas a classical female figure, known as the Venus of Ostia. In excellent untouched condition, stamped ESK ( Examined South Kensington ).
The Ostia Venus, Roman 1st - 2nd century, was excavated in 1775 by Gavin Hamilton, in Ostia, Italy, formerly in the collection of Charles Townley, now at the British Museum item number 1805,0703.16
