George I Painted Oak Mural Dole / Livery Cupboard ( sold )
A rare, early 18th century architectural formed oak wall hanging dole or livery cupboard, retaining beautiful layers of ancient paint. Of classical architectural form, with nulled and reeded pilasters, nulled top frame and turned half spindles to the doors. This differs from a glass cupboard as it clearly shows the pins on the back of the doors that would have held hair cloth behind the spindles for ventilation.
Condition : In very good condition, the layers of paint start at a scumble layer, followed by two or three late Georgian blues, top moulding is an old replacement, backboards may possibly be later, it has the two final layers of paint on it.
Provenance : Bought from the Olympia Antique fair around fifteen to twenty years ago.
