A Matched Pair Of George III Cast Iron Stoves ( sold )

A truly wonderful matched pair of George III cast iron Stoves in the form of a classical urn. The flared neck above a tapered body decorated with a band of guilloche and on either side, satyr masks to one and rams heads to the other, above beaded and acanthus decoration and a gadrooned socle on a waisted foot with channelled decoration, one with a beaded border, an outflow to the rear,
This design is attributed to Robert Adam and produced by the Carron Iron Company established by John Roebuck, Samuel Garbett and William Cadell in 1759 at Falkirk. It specialised in stoves and fire surrounds to the designs of the Adam brothers and Haworth brothers. A drawing in the Carron archives is close to this design..
You can find examples of both of these stoves at Temple Newsum House and the V and A museum.

Scottish circa 1780
