George III Terracotta Keystone By Van Spangen And Powell, London


A rare, large buff terracotta keystone by Van Spangen and Powell of Diana the Roman god of the hunt, moon and nature. In excellent condition and beautifully stamped underneath.

Van Spangen was a Dutchman, who set up his terracotta manufactory in direct competition to Coade in Bow, London. Producing keystones, plaques and figures from 1800 until 1828 when the business went bankrupt. Felix Austin bought a great many of his moulds and he later went into partnership with John Seeley ( of Coade ) around 1840 producing artificial stone products.
