A large, rare, mid 19th century cast iron garden urn by Handyside. Finely cast and beautifully patinated, retaining many layers of historical paint.
This very rare model appears in the mid 19th century catalogue of Andrew Handyside and Co. pattern no 26.

Andrew Handyside opened the Britannia Iron Works, Derby in 1851. They exhibited at the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1851, producing two catalogues, showing a wide range of cast iron urns and fountains all of which are of high quality but most are unmarked and are identifiable from their catalogues only.
